Miss America Serves 2017 the 3rd Annual National Day of Service – Saturday, April 8th

Atlantic City, NJ (February 23, 2017) – Saturday, April 8th will mark the third annual Miss America Serves event sponsored by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

The impact of last year’s efforts succeeded in surpassing the previous year, as our state titleholders and contestants blanketed the country, touching lives everywhere with kindness and dedication.  Those efforts made a significant difference to the people residing in our cities and towns across the country, while raising funds to continue the compassionate work of CMN Hospitals.  And, as we recognize and acknowledge that success, this year we are determined to increase the commitment to the children the CMN Hospitals serve.

Led by Miss America 2017, Savvy Shields, contestants and volunteers will perform countless acts of kindness and ask their friends, family, and social networks to donate to the Miss America State Scholarship funds and to local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

During this year’s Miss America Serves, we are challenging all our states to fully participate, and help us reach a new goal, by pledging to raise a minimum of $5,000 per state. If every state could rally all their contestants — at the Miss and the MAOTeen level — to form teams to showcase the Miss America spirit of service and giving, it would allow us to demonstrate our dedication to this commitment.

We’d also love to showcase any personal CMN Hospitals stories and/or experiences our contestants can share. Please forward directly to [email protected] or upload to the MAS Project Form below.

Here is what we need you to do to prepare for this amazing event:

1. Fill out this form: Click Here Why? Filling out this form will assist our media team in promoting these efforts: We understand that your event may not be finalized; however, we need to present as much information available to date for potential media opportunities.

2. Register your team(s) at MissAmericaServes.org Why? This is your public facing website to accept donations during your service activity.  If your team is not listed, the public will not be able to contribute to your state scholarship funds and local children’s hospitals.

3. Start creating social buzz and let’s get Miss America Serves trending!  You can begin to create the momentum by tweeting and posting Facebook updates to your social networks. Be a part of the conversation by using the hashtag #MissAmericaServes and your state #STATEABBREVIATION (#AR, #CA, #NY, #TX, etc.) together in the same post on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Please note, it is very important that you use the correct #two-letter postal abbreviation.

4. Click here to order your Miss America Serves t-shirt to create a united front for your team and event!

This is a tremendous event for all involved with Miss America and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. We can’t wait for the day and know that you share in our excitement. To recognize your achievements, we are awarding incentives again to those who meet milestones while promoting Miss America Serves.

The top five (5) Miss America contestants who raise the most funds for Miss America Serves will each earn a $1,000 scholarship from the Miss America Organization and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

The top five (5) State Organizations that raise the most funds for Miss America Serves will receive first placement in the ticket lottery for their State Organizations at the 2018 Miss America Competition this September.

Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Promotes “Chain Reaction” of Kindness in Schools

Partners with Organization Helping Schools Become Safer, More Connected

Tampa, FL, Feb 21, 2017 – The organization that honors Rachel Joy Scott, the first person killed in the Columbine High School shooting, is partnering with Miss America’s Outstanding Teen (MAOTeen) to promote kindness, hope and a positive climate in K-12 schools.

“We are thrilled about our partnership with Miss America’s Outstanding Teen,” said Rob Unger, CEO of Rachel’s Challenge, the non-profit organization founded in Rachel’s name to encourage kindness in schools. “This is a movement to shine light on Rachel’s story and most importantly the power of reaching out and being kind to those around you.”
In this newly released video produced by Rachel’s Challenge, reigning Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Nicole Jia reveals her story of exclusion and isolation bullying, including on social media, when she switched schools during her freshman year. She shared the emotional story with teens from the Chickasaw Nation Chickasha Pehlichi Ikbi Youth Leadership Program in Ada, Oklahoma during a kickoff event with Rachel’s Challenge.

“I am incredibly inspired by Rachel, who dedicated herself to being kind and accepting of other students at Columbine High School before the tragic events that took her life,” says Jia. “160,000 students skip school every day for fear of being bullied. Working together, we can help to create supportive communities both in schools and online that are united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.”

Since being named MAOTeen in August, Jia has worked to increase awareness that ignoring or isolating peers is a silent form of bullying. She is leading MAOTeen’s #BeSelfless campaign, which challenges kids to post fewer selfies and share more selfless acts of kindness and authenticity on social media. The #BeSelfless campaign has built momentum over the past year through partnerships with anti-bullying organizations, teen therapists and social media responsibility advocates.
